I am running a Home Assistant Supervised instance. I also have two Lenovo Smart Displays 10” and I noticed some weird issue that seems to be caused by Home Assistant, possibly by the Google Cast integration. Both my Lenovo displays are affected.
Simply put, the display will freeze a few minutes/hours after being powered on. The unit remains responsive (e.g., it still responds to OK Google commands, can play music, etc). It does not matter what was being displayed (photos, clock, art, casting the home assistant UI, etc.).
Now, if the Home Assistant server is offline, my Lenovo displays never freeze. If I start up my Home Assistant server, the displays will again freeze within minutes / hours (this is very inconsistent, I have not found a pattern).
I have first noticed this with version 2021.3. This is still present in 2021.4. I tried rolling back 2021.2, but that broke my installation. I cannot t really confirm if this issue was introduced by a Home Assistant update or a Google update of the smart displays. I do not have any errors in the Home Assistant logs and no relevant warnings.
I tried removing the Lenovo devices from Home Assistant and disable the Google Cast integration altogether. That did not help.
I was initially running a Supervised instance on Ubuntu (unsupported). I reinstalled everything on Debian Buster to have a fully compliant supervised installation. That did not help.
If I reset the Lenovo displays and do not configure them (so they remain offline), they do not freeze up.
Next, I will assign static IPs to the Lenovo displays and completely block them off from the Home Assistant server.
I am curious to know if anybody else using Home Assistant has experienced something similar with Lenovo smart displays or even Google Nest Hubs.
