Home Assistant coming for your car!

I didn’t find an “issue” on Github for this but is there any plan to include the ability to control alarms? (alarm_control_panel)

So for Android Auto we have to supply simple on and off controls I am not sure how that will work as a toggle for that domain. In the meantime feel free to submit a feature request for github on it so we can discuss how it can work. I think we can come up with something to meet that criteria.

For those on the latest beta can you guys let me know if any of the new Car Sensors are working for you? They require the app to be started once in android auto in order to report any data. At least in my own car the only sensor that works is Car Name the others either report unknown or unimplemented. After starting the app you may need to open the phone app too in order to trigger a sensor update. Curious to see what others experience. Unfortunately we cannot hide sensors that dont exist for a vehicle but good to see whats working for who

Might be doing something wrong but I have just enabled the Android Auto sensor and some of the car sensors and restarted the app. All sensors are unknown and the Android Auto sensor is showing OFF even though it is up on the head unit as I type this. The is a Mazda CX-9. I can try my other car (which is an EV) this afternoon

Fair enough. I guess with sensors becoming available I can create a template sensor to show the alarm status and then separately have scripts to arm / disarm.

Will do.

I guess this wouldn’t be an issue if we could have a dedicated dashboard to display and then just use an alarm card. I take it that showing dashboards / cards will never happen?

those car sensor updates will not be instant but the android auto one should be, try to force stop the app and open it again while in the car with the app open in the car. Getting the data is a bit odd and there is a core bug when a sensor is registered its first update is not received and its stuck as unknown until a subsequent update that changes the state. If you check the logs though we do print some data

not until google says yes, most likely not but I think alarm_control_panel can be added without needing to create a template and script. Most like we can default to armed_away and disarmed but that discussion should be in the issue to figure out what makes sense. Something like input_select or number may not be things we can add but others we can figure something out for simple control

Ok after a bit of fiddling with plugging and unplugging the android auto sensor is, as you say, updating immediately. I can see a large alpha numeric string for the car name and the other sensors (battery, fuel and odometer in my case) remain unknown

unknown is a valid status unfortunately

Just had a play with the beta, favourites is working as expected and a significant improvement. I can see there is an effort to have the favourites open by default, which would again make things much more usable. Many thanks to the people who have worked on this!

Yeah. I am praying for this to work with my EV to better automate the charging so will see what happens when I get access to that car this afternoon :crossed_fingers:

Kia Sorento HEV, nothing interesting unfortunately:

Interesting is that Car Fuel Type shows as unimplemented while others as unknown. Only the Car Name gets a value. Good that I have KIA integration from HACS. It does not require the phone to be connected to the car.

Unfortunately no go with my MG ZS EV. Same as what you reported only Car name and Android Auto connection is working.

All sensors report unknown… might well be the car though

yes the data is going to depend on what the vehicle wants to report

tomorrow nights beta push will include the design changes to show favorites by default, you should be able to grab the APK from github after the release is created approximately 915 pm PST (action starts at 9 and takes a lil bit to run)

Looking forward to your feedback on how things look

here is a sneak peak

Awesome.

I have a split screen on Android auto since a recent update. left side being larger, right side being smaller.

Allows to have navigation on the big screen and for instance Spotify on the smaller one.

What would be required to project HA on the right side? Is this AA driven or HA? Settings on my side?

This feature is called coolwalk and there is no known API for it.
