Home Assistant Core upgrade failed 2024.10.2 -> .3 or .4 [resolved]

I’m posting this in case it is of help to others. I could not get the automatic update for Home Assistant Core to work. I was running 2024.10.2 and was attempting to update to .3 and then .4.

I’m using a Raspberry Pi running the containerized install

Symptoms - When I would tell the system to update… it would take a really long time and then eventually would appear to crash the host and cause it to reboot.

Apparent Fix - I had a partial install of HACS on my system. This appears to be what was angering the update. To resolve the issue, I had to log in and remove all of the hold HACS files and directories. I used the terminal plugin and roughly followed the instructions in the below video, however I deleted any/all HACS associated files using terminal on my own box (versus using an external tool). I specifically had to delete all the hats files in ~config/.storage sub directory.

Once I did the above and rebooted (2x for good measure) the install was successful.
