Home Assistant goes unresponsive, ACPI Shutdown brings it back (without shutting down)

I’ve had an issue with my HA for quite sometime, albeit somewhat sporadic (it’s not HA version specific).

I’m running HA in a VirtualBox VM on a Windows 10 computer. Every 6 - 10 days, I can’t connect to the HA dashboard (thru web, or the companion app). When I log into my Windows box, and choose the ACPI Shutdown option, the VM doesn’t shutdown, but HA does come back online.

If I do try an ACPI shutdown when HA is responsive, it does shutdown.

Below is a screenshot showing the HA terminal. I believe I had HA go offline once or twice, which is why some of the errors are doubled up.

I had the same issue. Turns out my Windows Home edition had fired up the Hypervisor and VirtualBox doesn’t like it. Plenty of things can cause it (e.g., Android emulators)

Another alternative to ACPI shutdown is pause/resume - had the same effect for me.

I gave up on it in the end and switched to VMware Workstation Player (free for personal use) - runs a lot quicker and has been rock solid.
