Thank you to all who are happy working with Home assistant. After a couple of weeks fighting this program and trying to ass simple add on. I have found that it is consuming a lot more of my time trying to fix things and trying to reconnect than what it is doing being able to help.
I could automate my home better with a load of string than with this.
I know it is probably me but I am so fed up or getting no where so until something is going to work on here I wish everyone the best and have a safe time what ever you are doing.
It’s unfortunate you had a bad experience, it is still very hobbyist software changing often so it is not for everyone. My experience has been on a whole fantastic – but I’ve had those moments where entire portions have broken be it z-wave, zigbee mqtt or another component. The fact that it can handle all of those is what makes it so great, and at the same time sometimes very difficult to work with. I wish you luck regardless if you stick with HA or decide to get fanciful with strings – all the best. I see you have only one other post, the community will help and most issues have been answered her in some form already.
It doesn’t look like you’ve asked any questions after you installed home assistant. The community is happy to help if you’re struggling with something. Either way, best of luck with whatever you choose.
I disagree, I think it’s beyond the time it was hobbyist. My installation was fairly easy and, more important, runs rock solid. Which I couldn’t with the system before HA. So I’m more then impressed by HA. Though I did read up a lot on this forum before I started and it took me a while (and some long videos of Frenck) to understand yaml and templating. But now that I do I think it’s the most versatile system combined with the easiest way of configuring. And maybe the most important thing is the support, here on this forum, but also on discord is amazing.
I had asked a few questions and even from the beginning. I received help but every time to try to log back in I struggle for a few hours then it seems to work which is not promising. I also had a bunch of errors during the install of Node Red and other add on.
I have lost interest in HA.
I tried to search for help in the forums and online as I did not want to be asking questions all the time. I struggle to open HA after I log out it takes between 2 to 5 hours of trying to get it to login and connect.
Then trying to install Node Red I tried a number of times and every time I get bunches of errors in the log file.
It sounds like you have/had some fundamental issues with your setup. Logging in should only take moments if you’ve got the right username and password, even if you’re running on something underpowered.
Still, as others have said, if you’d come and asked questions - here or on Discord - I’m pretty sure we’d have got it working for you.
There are lots of people who run into issues and ask a mass of questions, that’s not a problem Struggling in the dark because you don’t want to ask… that is a problem.
Your experience does sound awful. I’ve had my fair shares of those with other software as well. The motivation goes down pretty quickly. Can we maybe convince you in any way to start over 1 more time? With all the help we could give you? Maybe start with telling us what hardware you are using and how you installed HA on it?
Did you have it set to keep a fixed IP address?
You can click ’ save login’ once you log in and not have to log in again. Or even have it so that it doesn’t require a login on local network
I can’t see where this can go wrong. I do suggest clicking the ‘save login’ at the bottom right after a successful login, it just speeds things up for you
You should do what feels right at the moment. But if you want to try and fix it any day soon contact us and we are there for you. Heck, send me a PM even I’m always in for some troubleshooting.
Why did you even create this topic? Just to let others know that you failed?
From your responses it’s clear that you don’t even want to try it anymore, so why post it?
Your problem descriptions are also not really useful, would be good to know which version you installed and how you installed it? Was it an image? Did you some guide to install it? Did you ever check the error logs once you were able to login?
A pitty to hear about given up.
I did struggle myself for about 6 weeks.
I needed that time to learn about the basics.
I chosed to programm in NodeRED instead of Yaml, because NodeRED is visual way of programming
Now after about 4 month I will not go back to my old Domotica (Homey) and experience a very solid, professional and good working HA.
I’m realy happy with it.
So don’t give up!!
Almost everything is possible to automate in HA.
Well, sorry to see you go, but frankly, a login taking hours? and you blame that on Home Assistant? If anybody else had that experience, this community would be awash with complaints, logs, fixes and whatnot.
So, sorry, but whatever the root cause is, it’s your setup’s problem. Don’t blame Home Assistant.
