Home Assistant not working properly, few times a day

Hello,

I’m not sure this is the right Forum category. If not, please feel free to move or to message me to move it.

I have a couple of issues with my HA installation and I’m not sure if those have maybe a common error. The issues occur several times a day and the only way to solve it, is to hard-restart the RPi.

The issues:

  • HA is not reachable (Browser and Android app), Automations are also not running.
  • ZHA Integration (SkyConnect) does not work. Reloading the integration does not help also.
  • If something does not work and I want to restart HA from the web interface it says it can’t run the “restart” service

Can someone please help to figure out what the cause of these problems might be? If you need logs, please let me know which logs you need.

Replace SD card with a quality sdcard. Your sd card may have failed causing this issue.

Check power supply is sufficient. If 100ma is recommended, use 150-200ma supply

Verify any possible network issues.

This is generic device. My money is on sdcard failing.

I use a RPi 4b with a SSD. Network is also stable, I don’t have any issues with any other devices. The power supply i for the RPi is 5.1V and 3.5A

I’d second that. 95% of RPI stability problems are either insufficient amperage or bad SD.

This is probably not the answer you were looking for, but did you consider a mini-PC? With RPI prices skyrocketing and mini-PCs getting ridiculously cheap, you can get an 8GB/128SSD with a modern intel CPU for under $100. The performance will be better beyond any meaningful comparison. It will boot probably 10x faster, and you get benefit of Proxmox. I’m a new HA user and am so happy I went this route rather than RPI.

Edit: I assumed you had SD. As you have SSD, I’d like to walk back my estimate from 10x to 2x

Is ssh connection available?

Space on ssd?

Have you tried connect to monitor and see if Running OS?

I only use about 6 % of the SSD at the moment, so space should be OK. I don’t have an SSH addon installed. I will try to connect it to a Monitor next time it happens.
