Home assistant operating system browser

Basic computer user with not to much Linux skill.
I installed the HAOS on a stand alone HP ThinClient. It boots up fine but leaves me at the terminal command prompt. I need to go to a browser to put in my IP address :8123. but have no idea how to get a browser running… is there one installed in HAOS, and if so, where do I find it or how do I load one from the command prompt.
Thank you all in advance, for not shredding me for asking a basic question.

The intent is to use a browser on a separate machine. The HAOS box is intended to be run headless.

Thank you Nathan. May I ask how to connect the two?

Hi, they are connected over your network and when you point your browser on another system to the IP:port you will see the login screen of your HA.
Just like your modem/router/… HA is serving ‘a website’ which you can open from any other device with a browser AND connected over your network to HA.

Ok Thank you very much. I think I got it.

Have a fabulous day

You’re welcome!

Have you started again with HA since you created an account years ago, created few posts and now back with a basic thing?

Yes, its been a love hate relationship. LOL.

I had in running in a Linux mint VM before but it was very unwieldy for me, as I could never get it to restart automatically if the power went off. Then I sold my house and didn’t have a place for my toys, so now I am just going to try a different idea.

LOL concerning that hate <-> love

In the beginning, things can get frustrating but if you bite the bullet you can discover a very powerful home automation system.
The learning curve can be very steep if you have no experience in this field (I didn’t at least)
It’s a good decision to get a dedicated system for HA and these thinclients are a good choice.

Happy automating!

That way nobody else will ‘waste’ any time trying to help you and others might benefit from it.
