Home Assistant Supervised (previously known as Hass.io) on Synology DSM as native package (not supported or working atm)

@fredrike – I said it poorly. What I meant to say is that after the update circle spins for about a minute, I lose the ability to control Home Assistant from the browser session. The only workaround I have found for that so far is to restart the NAS which is sub-optimal. Is there another approach I should be using to install hass.io updates?

Updates works fine for me so I didn’t understand what you meant…

A better way to control a crashed hass or hassio_supervisor would be to start/stop it through the package center. If the hass container doesn’t come up I suggest you to have a look in the Docker package, but that should be the last resort.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice.

I ended up getting it upgraded by running ‘pip3 install --upgrade homeassistant’ from a terminal window from within the homeassistant docker container

Seriously, thanks for investing the time in putting the Synology Native Installer together!

Hi Fredrik,

Just got around to trying this beta version. It looks like the USB device names match now (with the proper underscores), but it’s still giving the same USB error when I try to start dependent addons. Let me know if there’s any other info/logs I can provide.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Fredrik, I’m using your package and have encountered no issues so far apart from the one I described here:
https://github.com/home-assistant/hassio/issues/1265

Is this something you’re aware of? I’ve read some discussion about the latest version having certain fixes for USB devices and wonder if this fits into that.

If so, how would I go about updating to the latest package without losing my configuration?

Yes there is a development version (in this thread) that is supposed to fix USB devices. But as I don’t have access to any hardware myself I can’t debug it and make sure it works so I’m waiting for feedback from the users. There is even a support pm thread but no one is responding back to me…

Before upgrading (which I think is pretty safe) you should make a backup of your hassio folder.

I’ll try the development version tonight and report back any issues. Just to make sure, is 20190813-6dd0666c.spk the latest version?

Do I simply do the manual package install On the same shared folder and is the expectation that it should retain all my existing settings? (I’ll definitely back things up beforehand)

Thanks for all your work on this Fredrik!

I also installed the latest version on my DS918+ without any issues. At the moment no Zigbee-Stick connected. I like the idea to run Hass.io on the Synology. Maybe it makes sense for me to use also an raspberry pi for some docker container like AdGuard.

Update: The workaround is to downgrade Docker version to 17.05.0-0401

Hi,

I have used this package some time now, but today I`m was changing to new disk on my DS216+II. And reinstalled the NAS so it was clean. It looks like that my hassio install is an old fashion home-assistant installation (see picture)

i just installed the development version and everything works both my Zwave stick and Zigbee2mqtt stick work! Where first only the Zwave worked.

Do you want me to check anything?

Thanks for the update!

I upgraded to the latest version of Hassio and the hassio tab menu has missing.
I can no longer see on the side.
Does anyone know how to solve?
Did it happen to anyone else?

Is anyone having any luck with Hass.io running on the latest update?

I’m currently running 6.2.2-24922 Update 3. This update required a restart of the system.

There were a few package updates that updated. Only one I could see doing any damage (with my little knowledge of how the packages run) is PHP 7.2 (update went from 7.2 to 7.2.20).

I now have Hass.io version 20190813-6dd0666c installed as I thought I’d try updating to the “latest” available. Previous was 20190805.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT 1:
What’s really odd is that when it was working fine, I installed AirSonos. I’ve restarted the NAS a few times and AirSonos is still working fine.

EDIT 2:
After the second restart, it now loads as expected.

why my home assistant doesn’t have “hass.io” item? I installed package as link:

what’s something wrong?

If you are running Docker version 18.09.0-0505, downgrade to 17.05.0-0401

how do you downgrade docker? I tried to install 17.05.0-0401 manually but it says I cant downgrade to the older version , do I have uninstall docker first and then install the old one?

I don’t know if you can convince Synology users to downgrade docker  You should know how long we’ve waited for this docker update to finally arrive hehehe.

This also happened here!!

well then I hope it will work with version 18 soon , cos I really want the hass.io experience with addons and everything. It now showing now. :frowning:

I’m still running Hass docker images on my Synology and learning. Maybe in the end I’ll switch to this package.

in time waiting for new docker version, I will try to backup config files and downgrade hass.io. Downgrade docker version isn’t good idea, i think so.
