Home Assistant using Vmware Workstation

Hi,

Home Assistant is failing to get an IP address after booting up in Vmware Workstation. image. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may be the case?

I guess it could be anything. Did it get one before? Is the interface the same? Change anything on the AP ? Change anything else?

No changes to home network as the VMDK was just downloaded\installed today.

I would make sure you setup the network type correctly. It needs to be “bridged” and the correctly selected NICS.

EDIT: These are the pages I used to get things all setup.

I think DHCP was on and the VM still was not getting an IP for whatever reason no dice. Yes I did have bridge networking enabled. Ideally I want Home Assistant on a Pi, but have trouble getting the one I want (Pi 400). I ended up re-doing things scratch. This time it got an IP but my IoT devices are on different vlan. I wasn’t aware VMware Player was free so I will setup it on a desktop I have on my IoT network. Thanks

My IoT are also on a different vLAN, and don’t have an issue. My network is all Unifi, if that makes a difference.

Glad you got it working.
