these last few days the Home Assistant Voice preview has started having a lot of dropouts. I’m not sure if it’s because of the latest Home Assistant core update, but before that there was no issue. Are you experiencing any problems as well? I see that on GitHub there’s a new build since yesterday. I’m currently on Firmware: 25.10.0 — when will Firmware: 25.11.0 be released?
Thank you.
Hi, I’m on 25.10.0 with my VPE and without any issues.
Does the activity box reveal anything or did you check the logs:
I thought my devices were having issues but it was voice agent
My TTS service recently lost its voice setting.
Not sure when or why. It caused havoc for me as any voice action requiring a response just failed and in many cases sent my voice device into loop.
“Turn On light” needs no response
“What time is it” needs response
Setting voice for tts solved many issues for me. I’m thinking it occurred after 2025.11 upgrade but have no way to confirm. Anyway I learned how to better troubleshoot.
- Check your voice agent settings? Settings >> voice assistant
- If you use HA cloud make sure there is no issue. I believe there were some recently
- look at voice device logs while using command
- Check for tts/stt errors in addons logs(I use docker so I only presume the addons have logs)
- You can enable debug setting to save stt inputs and have those mount in media folder for you to listen to. File names make no sense but it’s helpful
- Maybe there is more but generally you find the problem just by looking at voice device log
Noting the onset of winter, I had to smile…
I can see Doctor HA coddling: Take a firmware update and see me again in a week. ![]()
Also, define ‘dropouts’
dropouts = playing with stutters … It takes a long time to play an MP3. It’s not a Wi-Fi issue… it’s on 2.4 GHz.
no problems in logs
If you listen to or download file on PC is it same result?
2.4 is not immune to problems. What got me to switch to unify was the constant dropouts of my network. Would happen every time we ran microwave. Took me a while to put 2 and 2 together.
Which logs? HA, STT,TTS, device, all?
I once had to deal with a network which was fine except twice a day.
Turns out that the timing for dropouts was aligned with the ferry timetable.
When the ferry is entering harbour, its RADAR emits so much energy that WiFi is knocked out!
I don’t know if you’re joking, but that’s not my problem…
my WiFi works exactly as it should, I have no interference, and it’s properly connected at 2.4 GHz.
The channels I’ve selected are in the best possible condition.
I also installed the BETA version 25.11.0 and while it works through the Music Assistant, it has an issue with Google TTS.
So… patience — we’re waiting!
Did the new fixes/updates remedy the problem?
for me now its ok …BETA version 25.11.0 ( enable BETA and update ) I have Green, I Dont know about other devices.
I too having issues.
pulling my hairs, in the debug I could see the STT wheel spinning endlessly
(stt.speech_to_phrase), and on the VPE the led Flash until I press the button.
if i swap to “faster-whisper” i got funny result with my english speaking (french accent) but it could work occasionaly but not reliably with very simple sentence like “open Roller” close Roller"
tts and playing media work well
Assist with keyboard work perfectly.
sorry where to find out about firmware version ?
I did all the update possible (not beta)
I like speech to phrase because it has dictionary of input sentences. If sentence does not exist, it takes no action and does not make crazy response. I had issue where when I make command it also take input sound from TV and background and response was long “I dont understand <30 seconds of randmom gibberish>”. This not happen with speech to phrase.
Problem is, if sentence does not exist it does nothing. It seem like fail.
There is also another issue that it seem mic input sound is VERY low. I need to check more deeply but when I listen to the spoken command I can barely hear the words. I am guessing this will create issues for and STT provider.
I feel there is also need to add sentences.
I think you use German and I didnt think german was complete but I was not sure about this.
SUMMARY
try speak louder or test command close and far from device. purpose of this is to understand the limits and the possible problems
Commands are specific. “turn on light” works for whisper but “Turn on media room lights” must be said with speech to phrase. You can add custom sentence but you must first understand the working sentence and results
Each STT provider has strength and weakness.
HA remote so far was best. I just dont want to rely on remote provider for voice
