Following Tuya update late last year, my home turned into a dumb home. Home assistant became useless and i had to go back to control over 100 entities using Alexa and Google home.
My current Tuya V2 is having these known issues slowness and status issue.
Is Local Tuya worth the hassle ? Is it more stable and compliant with HA ? any downsides you experienced and wished you didn’t switch from the cloud (compatibility etc…)
I have been comparing the two integrations - with a thermostat and a smart plug - and I would say that the official integration is easier to set up because entities are detected automatically. In comparison, the Local Tuya integration requires much more detective work to figure what exactly each of the items presented by the device actually means and how to interpret/modify the values.
Other than that I have heard rumours that the Local Tuya integration may stop working at some point, but so far it’s working OK.
true, setting up the %$# project on their dev-site is not simple but their are youtube videos sadly also Tuya changes their dev site too so sometimes again searching.
My reason is as per the github page
This custom integration updates device status via push updates instead of polling, so status updates are fast (even when manually operated).
Using localtuya 3.5.0, only downside is the lack of support for Zigbee Gateways (I know there are forks with this functionality, but I was able to set them up through YAML, which is a no go for me, plus I was not able to set up all my Zigbee devices (f.e. my TRVs)). As I could see, version 4 is coming soon, with the optional cloud account, the set up will be a bit easier, however the “detective work” will remain, so is the lack of Zigbee support (at least I was not able to find any reference how to add a gateway). So my Wi-Fi devices are connected via localtuya, the Zigbee devices are using Z2M with a Conbee II. Despite of the inconvenience I would still recommend to go with localtuya. Really great integration, fast and stable (at least for me).
I guess mine is a MoesHouse branded one. The issue is not the official Tuya app or v2 integration, they work fine, I’m talking about a fork of localtuya 3.5.0 with Zigbee support. This is where - due to the experimental support - I couldn’t fully setup my devices…
