Home Assistant Won't Connect After 2024.10

Same here… Disabling Alexa Media Player did the trick

Same here.

Same here. Reboot of HA evey 10 minutes.
Also using Alexa Media Player v4.13.3.
I downgraded now to v4.13.2.

Now the issue is fixed, no more reboots
Good that I looked into this forum.

Same here – downgraded Alexa to version 4.13.2, and the issue stopped.

Thanks for the tip! I just disabled Alexa Media Player after restarting safe mode. Can you give me a clue on how to downgrade it to a working version? Thanks again!

Same here. Disabling Alexa Media Player stopped the crashed. I’m really surprised that an integration can cause the whole system to crash like this. Maybe the HA devs can look into what they could do to make the system more resilient to this kind of thing.

Go to HACS and select the Alexa Media Player integration.
Click “Download again” and select “Another Version”. Here you can choose a version and downgrade.

Well, I thought the issue was fixed I actually completely deleted the integration because I honestly don’t even use it. As soon as I update even without the integration I am still getting the crash, so apparently I have other issues I honestly have no idea what’s causing it. UGHHHHHH

The HA devs have no control over external custom components. That’s why you get a warning in the logs for each custom component explaining this every time you restart HA.

To make things worse, Alexa Media Player does not currently have an active code maintainer and is on life support. Hell, once you upgrade HA to 2024.10.1, it will not even let you load any AMP version from 4.13.3 and below.
Everything’s explained clearly in the post tagged with the solution tag . Please read that vey carefully.

Awesome! That worked perfectly! Thank you so much.

Totally agree and I understand it’s a kinda “at your own risk” deal. Just got me thinking if there was anything they could do to protect the system from things like this. It’s probably an architecture level issue which would take some heavy lifting to change. Still we live in hope.

They added debug logging for these scenarios a couple of releases ago.

They added safe mode restarts a year or so ago.

They’re adding a specific check for this issue with the next hotfix release.

Short of the Devs being able to see the future, I fail to see what else they could have done.

The best technique is to always make a full backup before upgrading, this we you can back-out if you experience any issues. I send my backups to a Synology network drive which in turn backs up to a cloud drive, so even if the HA machine burns up I can still use the backup to restore HA to a new machine. Always keep 3 backups, one on the machine one on another machine and one on a cloud drive, then you’ll be covered until WW3 arrives.

Ok so I have a new issue. I have disabled and actually completely deleted AMP so that is not the issue here now. Now when trying to update to 2024.1 it goes through with the update then not long after it loses connection then rolls back to 2024.9.3. I have no idea what the issue is so hopefully someone much smarter than me can assist me. These are my supervisor logs. You can see where it rollsback because update has failed. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Similar issue here. HA running Supervised on RPi 4 8GB with SSD. Rather than rebooting, my system freezes random times, typically 5 to 30 minutes. At first, I suspected a heat issue because the case the unit is in was uncomfortably warm. System Monitor showed CPU temp around 117F, which is not really too hot. I put an external fan to assist cooling and got the CPU temp down to low 90’s and it still kept locking up. I have disabled Alexa Media Player 4.13.3 and though I am currently only 15 minutes in, I am hopeful. [update: 1 hour and still going!]

Downgrading worked for me.

if it helps debug the issue I believe this is the specific error that causes the python error with regards to the Alexa plugin:

Downgrading to 4.13.2 resolved the issue for me.

Helped for a while. But today when I looked into the Energy page, suddenly again the system hangs and restarted.
Suspect something in core Im afraid :disappointed_relieved:

Thank you. That worked for me, too - Disabling the Alexa media player.
