I just purchased a Aeotec Zi zigbee extender and tried to pair it to HA. No luck whatsoever. HA doesn’t see the extender. I’m using ZHA and have paired many other philips and aqara devices with no problem. Any idea how to troubleshoot? I can provide log files. I’m running the latest version of HA
How many routers vs end devices do you have? I had similar troubles with my weak network in my house that is still under construction. I basically have only 2 router devices and those seem to have limited end device slots (10, to be exact). Which means once all the slots on the routers are filled, they will not accept any more devices joining.
The coordinator also usually has a limit of devices it can accept directly, so in you case it might be that
- you are trying to pair a device out of range of the coordinator and your other routers are full
- your coordinator and routers are both full
- your new device’s antenna is defective
I’d try looking at the network map (does ZHA has one? using z2m myself) and check if the amount of end devices on your routers. You might als try pairing your new device to the coordinator directly, maybe even with them touching to check if it connects then (for broken antennas it’s usually enough to make it pair anyway)
One router and about twenty endpoints. Problem is not endpoint limit as I added three more (light bulbs, switches, etc.) after I failed to add the Aeotec Zi. Ordered a zigbee switch to see if I can add it. If that works, will just return the Zi and not worry about it.
Have you checked to see if it’s actually in pairing mode? It should be flashing rapidly.
From their Docs:
LED States:
Fade in and out: powered but not connected to any network.
Flashing Rapidly: attempting to connect to a Zigbee network.
Solid ON/OFF: connected to a Zigbee network.
Also from their docs:
Home Assistant:
From Home Assistant dashboard, select Configurations.
Select Integrations.
Under Zigbee, tap Configure.
Select +.
While the Hub searches, move the Range Extender Zi within 15 feet of the Hub and plug it in. It should automatically pair.
If it does not automatically pair, tap the Action Button once
Duh! You are correct about not being in pairing mode. It was flashing slowly. One quick tap put it in pairing mode and it hooked right up. Thanks
Glad you managed!
