Home Assistant Yellow doesn't show up after changing place in house

Hello! I had a recent Home Assistant Yellow set up and running, everything was fine.

Today I unplugged it and moved it into another place in the home, reconnected the LAN and power cables (same LAN) but it never showed up again in http-homeassistant-local-8123

(using hyphens in the URLs because I have a limit in the number of hyperlinks I can include in my post)

I waited a long time before trying to access http-homeassistant-local-8123 again, but it still doesn’t open.

The lights are blinking in the HAY, I assume it’s not dead. I’m also sure the LAN cable has connection to internet. It’s just not the same place in the house, I assume a different IP would be assigned to it.

I check the network devices and when I power it up, no new device shows up in the network. Even after 30 minutes.

I thought maybe it wouldn’t work because I linked it to another LAN cable (this is all in the same LAN) and changing local IP would mess up things?

So I did a reset (using the red button within 5 seconds of powering it up). After 30 minutes, 1 hour and more I checked again but http-homeassistant-local-8123 still shows nothing:

This site can’t be reached

homeassistant.local’s DNS address could not be found. Diagnosing the problem.
DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE

Trying with http://10.1.1.100:8123/ just hangs forever

The device still doesn’t seem to show up in the devices in the network.

What would you suggest for me to save it?

– EDIT AFTER WORKING AGAIN:

I didn’t suspect the network cable because I was using the same cable that I used before moving the HAY to another location in the home. So then I tried another cable cable anyway + connected the cable to different port in my Deco 6e router, it finally showed up. I also reset the HAY but now I suspect that was unnecessary.

I think the real problem is the port I was using in my Deco 6e router didn’t work for some reason. The port right next to it works. I don’t know why that would be the case.

So was the cable working with something else before you put the HAY there? If not check your cable out, terminations (RJ-45 plugs) are usually the problem.

If it is on a flat network, the IP should not change for a given amount of time (24 hours). Unless your leaving out more info on the situation.

Hi, this should be http://homeassistant.local:8123
If this is not working, look for the IP address that is assigned to the HAY in your router and try that with http:// preceding and port :8123

Also make sure that your browser is not defaulting to httpS

Best practice would be to lock that device into an IP address, either in the router or some other way, so that when it shuts off the router doesn’t assign a diffrent ip address.
The way to do this is different in every router.

You can also try using the serial console to diagnose your issue.

Using the serial console for debugging (Windows) – Home Assistant Yellow.

This will allow you to get the IP address and any other information via the command line interface (CLI) as documented here:

Common tasks - Operating System - Home Assistant.
