Home Connect - Can't register application ("/ is not allowed")

Hello, I’m trying to set up either the Home Connect integration or the Home Connect Alt integration, but I’m getting an error on the Home Connect Developer portal when I try to register my application (as listed in the prereqs).

When I go to register my application, I get “The character / is not allowed” with the redirect URI field highlighted.

I’ve tried:

  • Creating a different account
  • Turning off ad blockers
  • Trying another browser (I use Chrome Beta mostly, tried Firefox)
  • Trying to escape the slashes with backslashes
  • Trying to remove the slashes temporarily to get the account to register
  • Trying to do a device auth flow instead of an authorization code grant flow

Has anyone else had this issue? Seems possible that someone on the Home Connect dev team got a little paranoid about making inputs “safe”.

If anyone has any workarounds I’d deeply appreciate it.

Thank you!

@ekutner is it worth me filing a bug on ekutner/home-connect-hass

Yeah there seems to be a problem - I already have it set up and working, and tried to register another application but I get the same error as you.

There’s a contact form and I have used it before - but the second I mentioned Home Assistant they said they don’t support it and wouldn’t talk to me any more. So if you contact them, say you’re trying to register an app so you can test the API client. Having said that, I note that under my existing registered app there is a tab that mentions HA, so maybe they’re no longer so scared about it.

And assuming you get it working, I was using the Home Connect integration but swapped to Home Connect Alt because the entities from the first spent most of the time as “unavailable”. Even now I’ve had to automate reloading the integration when they go unavailable. I had assumed the unrelilability was punishment for living in Australia - or perhaps more accurately not living in the US or China.

Good luck!

Thank you! I’ll reach out and see what they say. Fingers crossed!
