Homeassistant VM Large storage space used

Hi all,

I’m running Homeassistant on a Synology DS918+ on a VM.
I noticed the used storage keeps on increasing in Synology VMM.

It currently is at ~30GB.

Comparing this by df -h command I see a delta of ~10GB:

Any ideas why this is different?

I installed portainer to see if there are old images/containers which could be removed. This was not the case. I did had several homeassistant backups with a size of ~6.5GB. I removed them from the VM (via samba share addon). However, the size reported by the VMM of Synology still reports ~30GB.

Via df -h I do see that the storage has been reduced:

Any ideas why the reported size by Synology VMM differs so much and how to get it reduced? In an earlier homeassistant VM it ran out of space, blocking even startup of homeasstant. Needed to re-install homeassistant with a clean VM install…

Another thing I noticed:
When I create a backup, VS code is taking the biggest part (~500MB zipped, ~2.5GB unzipped). The extensions take the biggest part of the data (~2.2GB). Is this normal?

Thx for in advance for thinking along!

Regards, Ruud

No you aren’t. You are running Home Assistant OS. There is no hassio.

I have the same situation…any ideas how to solve it?

nope, still having the same issue. in the meantime Homeassistant consumes ~60GB. Reserved 128GB for it in VM.

i think i found a way. I changed to a SATA Controller

i actived “speicherplatzrückgewinnung” - means something like shrink available dataspace - and also did a “Datenträgerbereinigung” on all Volumes means the whole Storage Disks. Today i noticed it shrinked down to de actual size that “df - h” shows.
Maybe that helps

Gone from 63GB to 13 as in the Screenshot

ah nice! this solved it for me as well. 19GB left now (i.s.o. 60GB)
thx for letting your solution know!
