Please can someone advise if there are any pros/cons between using the homebridge addon or going with the homekit component?
I want to get HA and homekit linked so need to choose which to go with - I have the homebridge addon installed but not configured. I’m thinking to go with native homekit component unless there is a good reason not to.
I scanned/searched in the homebridge addon thread and the addon readme but couldnt find anything to guide this decision.
At the moment the homebirdge add-on supports more components / domain then the HomeKit component. However the later is now more actively being worked on and the now missing components will be added soon.
In addition the native component is probably easier to setup.
There are different pros and cons.
The add-on still support a lot more, secondly the add-on support plugins.
These plugins seems to be the main reason people use the add-on and stay on it.
The native support in HA is just amazing and is probably the best option, if it fits your needs.
I found the Homebridge addon on Hassio performed better than the Homekit component on my Rpi3. The component takes more than 4 seconds to update statuses on my phone compared to the Homebridge component which only takes within a second.
I reverted back to the addon after testing the component for a couple of days.
Thanks I am doing a new install and wondered this as well. I am already using homebridge prior to trying hass.io and wondered if it is worth changing to the HA native homekit support.
Sounds like it may be the case at some point, but there’s not too much of a disadvantage to sticking with homebridge for now.
