"HomeKit Device" Integration with no Apple Device

Hi there!
So, recently I heard about the Aqara FP2 and how good it is, and I’m thinking about buying one.
After making a little research, I learned that you can’t connect the sensor to Hass.io directly, but you could go with the HomeKit Controller, which seems to be now named HomeKit Device.
That’s sounding good enough, but now comes the problem. I don’t have an Apple product, but android and windows. I googled a bit around, but wasn’t able to tell, if it’s possible. Really, I don’t want to spend €80 on something I can’t use.
Can I still use this integration, or am I not able to use the sensor properly?

I’m on the same boat but I already bought the sensor. I wonder how I can get this running without having to buy an iPhone.

Hey there, I’m interested with this question as well.

You don’t need an Apple Device to use the HA HomeKit Controller.

Thanks for your quick reply!
Just to be sure, it seems that HA “HomeKit Controller” used to appear in the integration list, is it now “HomeKit Device”?

Yes that is correct. Apparently it got renamed

Okay, thanks. I’m slowly getting there!

I’m still not following. Don’t you have to setup the device from a iPhone BEFORE integrating it from “HomeAssistant using HomeKit Device”?

You need the aqara app, either ios or android to setup wifi, zones, etc.

Once on wifi, it can be added directly via the hk device integration.

There is no need to setup in apple home first.

How do you obtain the Pairing Code?

I borrowed a mates iPhone - used it to get the code,
Although most devices have the Code printed either on them or on the documentation

Hello there

I just encountered this thread after trying to set up a couple of Aqara cameras in Home Assistant with no success. I’m not an Apple user so have no Apple devices in the house and am trying to get my head round the concept of the HomeKit Bridge and HomeKit Device integrations available in Home Assistant. My understanding is that the HomeKit Bridge integration is for people who want to share devices already in the Apple ecosystem, whereas the HomeKit Device integration appears to be the one I want, allowing me to add HomeKit compatible devices directly into Home Assistant without needing any Apple devices or hubs.

With this assumption made, I tried to use the HomeKit Device integration and it promptly told me that there were no devices available to add, so I tried the HomeKit Bridge integration and it installed and presented me with lots of options. I configured the new bridge as a bridge rather than an accessory and selected ‘Camera’ only from the list of domains. Once added to Home Assistant, the Device integration found 150 devices on my network, including automations, but sadly it did not find my Aqara cameras, which are connected to the same wireless network but only added in the Aqara app.

After that very lengthy explanation, does anyone know how to use the integration to successfully add Aqara cameras to Home Assistant? I have the G3 and G2H Pro. I haven’t been able to find an article or YouTube video that covers this process
