Honeywell total connect comfort (EU) not showing correct hvac mode

Dear all

I’m having a problem and do not know where to start solving it. We recently installed the european evohome system with multiple rooms which we can heat seperately. I used the honeywell total comfort connect (europe) integration. All measured temperatures and set points for all rooms are showing and if I change something from either the evohome system or in home assistant it works perfect.

However, the home assistant is for all zones always showing the hvac mode “heat”. Even when all measured temperatures are 1-2 degrees celcius above the setpoint and the boiler indicates it is turned off and is not heating.

Can someone help me in finding out how to make home assistant correctly indicate whether a zone is heating or not? I tried search the forum and google with no succes.

Searching in the home assistant logs I do find only these error message below regarding home assistant, but cannot find something which explains my problem as far as my limited experience goes:

I use the US Honeywell thermostats, but perhaps there’s some similarity.

Something changed in the HA integration a while back. It seems to involve the state of the climate entity and the attribute hvac_action. Today, the hvac_action attribute shows what action the thermostat is calling for (heating, in the example below) and the state always shows “heat” while the thermostat is in “heat” mode, as opposed to “off” or “cool.”

I’m not sure I understand why this decision was taken. The mode doesn’t change much, and for a heat-only thermostat, might stay on all year. To me, the “state” of a thermostat should indicate what it’s calling for the HVAC system to do. But for some reason nobody consulted me :wink:

Anyway, here are the attributes of my Honeywell thermostat while it’s calling for heat. The “state” is showing “heat,” as of course it will be all winter. Unfortunately, when you set up a “badge” in Lovelace to show your climate entity, it displays the state, not the hvac_action.

Thanks for the response. That might be an explanation. However, as far as I can see I do not have a hvac_action attribute. Below all attributes of one if the zones. Maybe there are some differences in EU vs US version? Anyone with an EU version with the same problem?
