I am not sure what your setup is, but Home Assistant is a server software that needs to run on a device at all times in your network. This could be a small Raspberry Pi computer, an old laptop or some other computer that is running as a server.
When that is up and running, then you can use the Android or iPhone version of the Home Assistant Companion App to connect to that server.
The IP address or URL you need to type into the Home Assistant Companion App is listed on the monitor of the server once the Home Assistant Server is started.
Thanks Wally, can we use the android tablet become a server? We just want to login the HA assistant dashboard. But we have no idea to setup it.
Do you have any comments?
No, Home Assistant run on a Linux system, so it is a completely separate computer for the server part.
Ok, we got it, if we make this android tablet run linux operation system, such as, Linux ubuntu 18.04, is it OK?
No. Stop trying to do that.
It might be technically possible but it’d be dreadful. The only reason to try would be for a laugh, and the sort of person that would do that wouldn’t be asking on here.
We don’t want to encourage you to do it, then spend our time troubleshooting your installation when it inevitably doesn’t work very well.
