How do I connect to my existing security system?

I already have an existing security system and I’m planning to replace it with Home Assistant, but for now, I want to do some testing. My house is all wired up. All of the doors and many of the windows have sensors on them. I have a couple wireless glass breakers and I have two wired control panels.

I want to try to build my own monitoring security system using ESP8266 and Home Assistant, but I am not ready to rip off the existing security system until I have completed configuring and testing the new one.

Do you know how to connect ESP8266 to existing security system? Will it create any problems if I connect EPS8266 and my existing security system directly to the same wired sensors? I want them to monitor my house and I want to be able to open my Home Assistant and see the status of all doors and windows.

Thanks!

What brand of security system? If it’s Honeywell or Ademco I purchased the envisalink ethernet adapter and that connects nicely to home assistant.

I have ADT and one of the control panels is “ADT SafewatchPro 3000”.

Not sure if there is anything else I can find.

ADT SafewatchPro 3000 is the same as a Honewell/Ademco Vista 20P which will work with the Envisalink Module.

Thank you for suggestion. Looks interesting, but it is about $100 when ESP8266 is much cheaper and there are many tutorials how to connect it to the security system in the house.

Unfortunately, tutorials talk about disconnected security systems. I want to know what will happen if I connect it in parallel to existing security system.

It would work in parallel as long as you connect before the resistors if the resistors are installed in the panel.

I thought of connecting it directly to the cables that comes from sensors. Can I do it? What do you think?

I looked inside the ADT box and, I guess I understand what you meant. The cables from sensors are connected to resistors and resistors are connected to the panel. Do you mean that I have to connect it to the same side where cable is connected to resistor, not to the resistor and panel. Is this correct?

Yes.
Technically, you can connect anywhere along the run since the resistors are in the panel.

can you link some of these tutorials on how to connect an ESP8266 to an existing alarm system?
