How do you use wifi router as device_tracker

I am using wifi as device_tracker, but that is not really a solution. For some of my devices I do not want to use a GPS tracker like OwnTracks, iCloud or th Home Assistant app. I use the Asuswrt component, the component works fine, it finds my devices, tells HA wich one is home wich not.

But problem is that the wifi enabled devices sometimes lose the signal, using mostly iPads and iPhones here. And this devices disconnect sometimes wifi to save energy. At night that really becomes a problem because the devices get not activated because they are not used over night. So the systems thinks the device is no longer home, but it is.

I know there are options like consider home to prevent that, but that is more for some minutes while no connection, not hours without wifi because nighttime.

So anyone here using wifi device trackers and have a hint who to solve that maybe?

Based on the experiences of others, the consensus is you should use more than one metric to ensure accurate presence detection. In other words, not just one source but a combination (wifi, bluetooth, motion, etc). You may also wish to familiarize yourself with the Bayesian Binary Sensor.

I highly recommend listening to the following episode of the Home Assistant Podcast. It is dedicated to the topic of Presence Detection.

Have you tried the “consider home” option in the config?
