How does Zigbee2mqtt work with generic devices?

Amazon has a metric boatload of Zigbee smart outlets, see the link below as an example. They don’t specifically show up as compatible devices in the big list. I suppose they could be branded differently like all the aqara stuff shows up as Xiaomi.

How do they work with Zigbee2mqtt?

Does it work fairly seamlessly or is there a bunch of manual setup?

If they don’t work out-of-the-box, you need to write a herdsman convertor

Which big list?

Probably this one:

https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/

Possibly, or maybe this one https://zigbee.blakadder.com/ . My point is, who knows with that description?

The real point is though, they will probably work, or at least possibly work, or will work with writing a bit of code. But there are two supported devices list, so why not buy one off the lists?

Yes, this is the list I was referring to.

Really it is the price. The two from the Zigbee2mqtt devices list I can find on Amazon are the Sonoff and the Aqara. They are double and quadruple the price respectively. It looks like if the device is not I need a herdsman converter.

You often buy these things and they are equal to some supported device, just look at the identical looking devices. Buy one and try it. As you say, cheap.

The order was placed 5 minutes ago. Now that I know what avenue to go down if it doesn’t work out of the box.

If it does not work then the next step is to search to see if can find if someone else has already placed a “New device support request” for it and if not then place your own “New device support request”:

https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues

https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt/issues/new/choose

Alternativly if you can code then make your own custom converter foir zigbee-herdsman-converters:

https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/advanced/support-new-devices/01_support_new_devices.html

https://github.com/Koenkk/zigbee-herdsman-converters

I must say that looking over the blakadder list, there are a lot of devices that are “currently unavailable” on the Amazon links.

Look forward to seeing how it works out.

The switch shows up as an eWeLink. It is fully supported.

I have lost track of whether you are using z2m or zha?

Im using Zigbee2mqtt. I heard it has more supported devices.

What do manufacturer and model show up as in the z2m UI?

Manufacturer = eWeLink
Model = SA-003-Zigbee

The listed manufacturer is Seedan.

And there it goes eWeLink SA-003-Zigbee control via MQTT | Zigbee2MQTT
