How heavily can Home Assistant OS be loaded?

Hello,

After few months of various experiences, my Home Assistant works fine, but is pretty messy and I think it’s a good time to make a fresh start.
I am wondering how I should tackle it best providing my Home Assistant OS runs in a VM on a NAS Synology.
Should I:

  1. Keep Home Assistant OS to a minimum and install as much add-ons (Mosquitto, MariaDB, Grafana) as possible on Synology via Docker to ensure efficiency?
  2. Install everything on the Home Assistant OS VM (a.o. via Portainer) to ensure better portability (through backup image)

Does anyone have any experience, educated opinion on this?

If you install anything on HA OS through portainer you will get ‘Unsupported installation’

Is that correct? Have you verified that yourself?

Good to know, what about installing as much as possible through the supervisor.
Typical use case: should I have InfluxDB + Grafana in the HAos or in my main Synology Docker?

The add-ons for InfluxDB and Grafana are easy to install, and get backed-up with the Supervisor backup
