I wanted to start this topic to ask you guys “How large is your Home Assistant installation?”.
So if you want to share some cool stuff from your home (and not only) to understand how many devices, entities and automation are you using feel free
Wow, i’m at aprox 300+ entities at the moment. But i still haven’t integrated my fourth solar plant, some other power meters and my bacnet points for hvac.
So I have a personal opinion on this (yes I know everyone has opinions…) I know I toss that 20k number up there casually yes… But honestly I rarely think about it except in cases where I’m considering memory loads and token counts for LLM work.
That all grew organically over years. From
Identify your need. Solve for that need. Repeat.
At no time did I install something and say oooh now what? (yes I review the system quarterly to see. If my additions can be tied. Together in new and cool ways but that’s secondary)
Id instead urge you to read the HA cookbook a d get a good understanding (someone drop a link pls) and then make a list of three or four things you want your home to do. Then on paper work out what you need to buy, do, understand or prepare to get there.
When you have THAT. Then come back and ask how we would do those things.
Otherwise you’re spending money looking for a problem and that’s the most expensive way to do this and will lead to to trouble.
I have to make available HVAC system through my home assistant instance, i still have to read my GAS which is using a NAMUR pulse output, still have to insert at least a couple of water meters…
