How many options to voice control Hassio?

Hi,

How many options there is to control Hassio (MQTT add on etc…) by voice?

I read about Snips and Siri (Homekit from apple).

Please, which is the best for voice control and how can I use it?

I personally use Google Assistant (now connected with Nabu Casa) and the Amazon Polly TTS component and it works very well for me.

I have lots of Amazon Echo and Dot devices around the house and I use Alexa for voice control and feedback with Nabu Casa. It’s awesome.

Hi, do you use google assistant on the phone (please do you know how to you voice commands to control google home on iPhone?).

For Amazon Polly TTS component, do I need some hardware from amazon?

I am looking for the best - cheapest option to control Home Assistant with voice

Google assistant is utilized by my Google Homes, Google Minis and android phones. If I was so inclined I could plug a mic into my Rpi and use that also (I do not). You could also utilize HA’s built in conversation component to do the same. You will need to speak to an iPhone user about Google Assistant on an iPhone. Maybe Alexa is a better choice for iOS users?

Amazon Polly is a Text To Speech (TTS) component for Home Assistant. It is not hardware. It is used to generate speech on speaker based on inputted text. You do not actually need it to voice control your home. In my case Google Assistant can do that all on it’s own. TTS is more used for notifications, announcements etc.

Amazon Polly does incur a small cost after a year based on usage I think. There is also Google TTS and Microsoft TTS available. Google TTS is totally free, no idea about Microsoft TTS I never got it to work.

thanks for reply,

Is it possible to install Amazon Polly on HA and plug stereo in the raspberry pi and listen to the speech made from HA/Amazon Polly without buying Alexa:

You can play Polly TTS on any media player. It doesn’t have to be an Alexa.

To use the jack on your Rpi you have to install and add on to turn your hassio rpi into a media player.
Try this one, I’ve never used it but it seems to get referenced a lot. If you are new to all of this it might just be easier to pick up a new google mini or an echo.

Also you might want to just start with Google TTS. I think way more people use it and it is a bit simpler. You don’t have to worry about the SSML tags and whatnot.

I will try, but I cant start it just from tutorial on official web. Please, do you know any good tutorial or “howto” with Google TTS?

If you actually want voice control Home Assistant you want to use Google Assistant. Try this tutorial.
