How many POE cameras does Home Assistant Support?

Hello,
I’m just about to set up Home Assistant. I am wondering, how many POE onvif-compatible cameras can I expect to be able to run? I will not be running wireless, only POE. I’m thinking of getting 4-6, ultimately.

Regarding such a count, does it make a difference if I run on an x86 vs. a Raspberry Pi? I have a small PC running Fedora 32 already running as my NAS/media server/backup machine, and I plan to put Home Assistant on it- just to keep my device count low. My PC is usually idle anyway. It’s a 4-core J3455 CPU, 10W fanless homebrew machine.

the number of POE devices is not so much dependent on HA but really depends on your hardware (CPU, Memory, and network)…
I have 3 POE cameras, and 4 wifi cameras, no issues, but I use a separate PC that only does video related tasks (like motion detection via motion, person detection via tensorflow)

Great- thanks! If my NAS can’t handle it, I’ll get an Odroid H2 or Odyssey Blue J4105 and see how that goes.
