Hello I am new to Home Assistant and wondering how I should to setup Tailscale, for home assistant it is on a virtual machine and frigate which is also on another virtual machine but on Docker. I managed to download HACS and integrated Frigate and I want to have the ability to access Home Assistant on my phone outside of my local network. I am not going to use Frigate’s web interface and only use Home Assistant. So does that mean that Tailscale can be installed only on Home Assistant and the cameras will still connect or is there additional configuration and I need to install it on both machines?
You only need Tailscale installed on Home Assistant (or at least one node in your network), plus on the mobile that you want to use for remote access. Then configure the HA instance to expose the subnets you want access to, those subnets should include the one your Frigate instance is on.
Actually, if you don’t need to access frigate directly, you don’t need to expose subnets; HA will “proxy” access to your cameras
A while back I setup a Truenas Scale virtual machine and it already advertises/expose the subnets, do I need to do it for Home Assistant as well?
I am assuming because my machines are all connected locally?
I can’t remember if it was pre-configured, you probably still need to approve it in the Tailscale console.
Ok Sounds good I will look into it further
Specifically, because your HA can reach your Frigate
