How to add an input button to an area card in a dashboard

Is it possible to add an input button to an area card in my dashboard? I’ve not been able to work out how…

No that card isn’t really customizable in that way.

You could create a template button. You can add them to areas.

You can add a button in an area, but the Area Card does not display button controls.

Lights, fans, switches, and covers only.

Ah I see. Maybe a template switch then.

Does anyone have more thoughts on this? I’m finding it quite complicated in places!

As a novice, Features for dashboard cards - Home Assistant gives me hope it it describes features that can be added to cards (including area cards) and under the Button widget section, it mentions input buttons which is what I’m using to trigger my automation. I can’t work out if this all means I can have a button in my card area or not. Certainly, I don’t have a Button option on the Add Feature drop down, just Area controls. My input button helper has the same area as this area card…

Features are restricted to the type of card that supports them.

The only feature that area card supports is area controls. I agree that page isn’t great at explaining this point. Until recently Tile was the only card that really had features.

I’ve ended up adding another card which is presumably some other kind of card, not an area card. That allowed me to add the button to the top level dashboard and that’ll do for me!
