How to backup and restore HA on a newer Ubuntu server?

I am running HA 2021.11.5 Core in a Ubuntu 20.04 container on a Proxmox 7 server. Since last upgrade i got a notification on HA: i need to upgrade python to version 3.9 to be able to upgrade to the next HA version in 2022.

Since then i attempted several times to upgrade to python 3.9 in several ways i found on google and here on the board. None of which worked without one or more problems.

I figured i bypass the python problem and setup a new HA system with the latest Ubuntu 21.10.

I would like to know how to backup and restore the current HA setup i want to keep on using.

Is it enough to backup /home/homeassistant/.homeassistant and install HA core in the new system and just copy that folder into the new system?

Save yourself future python issues and switch to HA Container.

Yes. Just make sure you get the hidden subdirectories as well.

Thank you. A ready made HA LXC container would be nice. But i don’t like to use Docker or Podman though.

Great, then that is the way to go forward.
Thank you!

just in case you want one last try of upgrading python.

I worked on this all day.
Tons of errors.
I gave up for now

Backup the configuration folder and put it back on a new clean Ubuntu system, like @tom_l said, didn’t work either. I will try your suggestion soon and let you know if it worked.

What a pain to upgrade python and keep your current HA configuration.
