How to check log if home assistant core doesn't start

I am running hass.io on Rpi 3.
Connecting the Rpi with a HDMI monitor I can check the console and the HassOS log.
However I am not able to check the log of Home assistant core and it doesn’t start.
How can I check if there are some issues on the home assistant installation?

If you have the samba add-on you can access the log from there

Or if you have SSH add-on, you could ssh [email protected] and then cat /config/home-assistant.log

I have the samba and ssh addons but in this case they are not useful.
Home assistant core doesn’t start and the log file doesn’t contain errors.

Hi,

You mention you are running HA core - is this in docker or in a VirtEnv?

If the latter and you can ssh in, then tail the home-assistant.log file in the configuration directory or look at the daemon.log in /var/log/

I don’t know how it runs. I am using hass.io.

Ah Hass.io.

Lol with all the new naming I think that is Home Assistant now.

Not sure how to investigate that as I run the previously known as Home assistant now known as HA core in a virtual environment.

Hopefully one of the hass.io users here can help. Sorry :frowning:

Well, let’s start from the beginning: what’s your Hass.io version and when it failed to start - after an upgrade or with no changes from your side?
What is your boot media - is it an SD card?

Hass.io 3.9 and it failed without changes. The boot media is a new SD card.
I can check the console and I can see only OK in the log and no errors.

And nothing changes if you power-cycle your RPi?
I always had only remote access to mine.
Why do you say ssh is not useful?
I find hassio ha logs useful sometimes.

It is not useful in my case, since there are no errors on the log file.

We won’t get anywhere if you answer only selected questions I’m afraid :\

Sorry.

Yes, just tried.

As said before, I can read the ha logs but it is not useful in my case since it doesn’t contain errors.

If you check what you previously said you’ll be surprised how inconsistent you are
Anyway, is the log fresh? I mean, if you delete it and reboot (hassio ho reboot), is it re-created or you have no home-assistant.log in your /config folder?
By the way, does hassio ha restart work or throws errors?

Same issue here … no chance to figure out why its restarting :frowning:
