How to clear unused devices

When I first started with HA I added all the devices I had following the instructions with the Tradfri bulbs by sitting near the coordinatior and adding them all in one pass.
I did the same with the the battery devices and all the new devices I’ve bought since then.
I now realise that was not a smart way to do things and am starting to have some odd faults with devices not connecting or disappearing when I rename them.
There are eight smart plugs in addition to the dozen bulbs and the device map seems to look OK

Three questions:
With the benefit of reading the instructions now I know that the devices would have better been paired at their intended location.
The SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2 shows 57 devices connected. Does that mean they are all direct connection to the controller or does that number include the children? How can I unpair them and will that make them re-pair as children?
(I already did a factory reset and re-pair on most of them but haven’t noticed any change)

The additional bulbs and battery devices that are not yet installed have been paired and show up in the map even though they are not powered on or have no battery. Does that matter and how do I remove them?

How do I remove the devices that have failed and are on their way back to the vendor? They show in device and entity lists an I can see no ‘delete’ option.

Four answers:

  1. The device count of the coordinator entity are all devices that are part of the mesh network run by your coordinator, independent of a direct connection to the coordinator.

  2. Redoing the pairing process at the destination should do the trick, I suppose removing them will not make a better re-connection. You will be at the networks grace which connections are going to be set up in the end.

  3. I have the same issue, I have powered down but registered devices I don’t want to use right now. Unfortunately disabling them does not hide them from the ZHA map. Related github issue: ZHA Visualization showing disabled devices · Issue #20717 · home-assistant/frontend · GitHub

  4. On the device page there is a three point menu next to “Reconfigure”. There you will find the “Remove” option. Took me a while to find it. I expected it to be in the top right corner, like with everything else you can delete in HA…
