Hello I just installed home assisstant on Generic x86-64 NUC. I followed the steps in the documentation up untill the onboarding part. I copied the url from home assistant cli to my browser (http://homeassistant.local:8123/) but it direct me to a login page and I haven’t created an account yet. How do I create an account? I have donwloaded the app on my phone and it went to the same login page. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.
Thanks for the reply. That’s the part where I’m struggling with, as after entering the HA address in my browser it doesn’t show preparation screen or the create account page. This is how it looks like right after I entered the link. Did I enter the wrong url?
You shouldn’t get this screen until after you have created your account in Onboarding.
At this point I would go back to flashing the binary to your boot device.
There are some Balena clones that contain spyware. You should only use the software directly from Balena.
I figured out what the problem was, It seemed that it didn’t work out because I haven’t set the device’s IP Address, then I accessed to Home Assistant at http://X.X.X.X:8123
. Thanks.
this happened to me too! grrrr
I had the same issue…I ended up connecting directly to the box and typing this in the HA command line:
ha os datadisk wipe
it seemed to work…ive been working on adding a user and all sorts of stuff for 6 hours. ugh.
NOTHING else worked…not downloading the BalenaEtcher and all that other stuff…just wipe the sucker clean!!
Guys, be aware that Balena Etcher can cause some issues; there are quite some reports about it here on the forum.
OTH: I don’t know what is a good alternative for this job…
I’m having this exact same problem. I’ve used the IOS app and multiple web browsers, all go directly to a login screen and I have not yet created a log in. I’ve reset the green home assistant device many times.
I also tried the ha > command listed above with no luck.
Any additional help would be appreciated. I’m not sure I’m able to flash the binary with the PC I have. Can’t all this be don from a phone/tablet?
You need a browser session to your HA to do the onboarding.
Don’t use any special characters, no caps in the username.
PC Browser goes directly to this screen when I follow the directions. Not sure how to set up my log in?

Sorry, wouldn’t let me put both images in one post.
Jeff, I guess the only thing left you can do is to start from scratch.
You will need a computer to do that, meaning this cannot be done on a mobile device.
Also, you need to use the right image for your HA system.
Darn. I’ll try that next week I guess. This HA green is brand new out of the box. I’m afraid that I’m already having this much trouble, this system may not be for me. I was just looking to save the $20/mo my current system charges.
It’s a small hurdle Jeff.
If you didn’t know this yet: HA is a DIY solution and either you get a system that is ready - pity you have this little setback - or you choose a system yourself, which also needs some investigation.
Because of that DIY side of it, the possibilities are endless but you need to get into it and for that, you need some patience and persistence.
