How to customize dashboard temp sensor to match thermostat

Hey guys,

I finally made the jump to HA and so far I love it!

Hopefully this is an easy question. I’m attaching a picture of my rudimentary dashboard. I have a heading called ‘thermostats’ and the device names reference ‘climate’ objects. (actual thermostats)

But I have a zigbee temp and humidity sensor that I’d like to display in a similar fashion. How can I ‘trick’ HA into displaying my master bedroom Temp sensor in the same format as my thermostat?

Go to Settings | Devices & Services | Entities, find the entity and change the icon to mdi:thermostat.

I don’t think you’re going to be able to trick it into showing the “Currently…” bit, though. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Maybe with Generic Thermostat - Home Assistant

I finally got this working. So now I see an entity for a new thermostat. Now where I am confused is how do I get this virtual thermostat to use the values from my actual temp sensor?

I think if I can do that, HA should treat it like an actual thermostat and I should get the behavior I am looking for.

Look at the link I posted.
It’s in the examples

I have this working now. Thank you. I am pretty new to HA so I am still learning how to reference items like sensor data

Just post your questions here.
We have all been in your situation and the learning curve can be pretty steep, especially if you are not using the forums here.
