How to debug Voice Assist on mobile app?

I’ve been using Voice Assist on Android on both my Pixel 7 phone and Galaxy Watch 4 ever since they released, but recently Voice Assist refuses to load (on either device)… after I issue a command it just sits and thinks forever and either returns “couldn’t connect to home assistant” or “I couldn’t understand that”…

Just today, I noticed that if I let it sit long enough thinking, it will return “sorry, I couldn’t understand that” and show a whole bunch of garbage data as my input… it literally just repeats “savor” over and over again “savorsavorsavorsavorsavor…”

How in the heck would I even begin to debug this?.. It just stopped working in the last few months and I don’t know how to identify what’s wrong when the debug output appears to be useless…

start here https://www.home-assistant.io/voice_control/troubleshooting/

While I appreciate the link, I guess I didn’t explain well enough what’s going on… I had already looked at the debug information for voice control and all it did was show me what I already knew, that it wasn’t hearing what I was saying… the problem appears to be with the mobile app itself, NOT anything wrong with Voice Assist. I can use Voice Assist just fine directly on my PC.

Anyway, I left it alone for a few days and it seems to have resolved itself… I was just hoping to fix it in the moment, and possibly help the team identify a weird bug…

ok I see next time you hit a weird issue like that check the companion app logs for errors when invoking assist from your android devices.

Settings > Companion app > troubleshooting > show and share logs
