How to disconnect tapo matter plugs from the cloud

  1. Setup the plug like normal in the tapo app
  2. Remove the plug from the tapo app
  3. Then add them via matter to apple home, home assistant, etc. (by scanning the matter qr code on the device)
  4. It will setup the plug, and add it to the matter controller.
  5. Now your tapo plug is now disconnected from the cloud!
  6. You can you use tapo integration in ha to control locally.

Ah, Matter. The plug and pray solution that isn’t.

Wait till you have to reconfigure it, down the track. Will the vendor have withdrawn support by then (deliberately or not), leaving you high and dry?

Are you sure you need Apple Home involved?

Read further in the reddit thread. Vested interests have over-ridden technical advances yet again.
