Hi experts:
My company banned DDNS hosts including duckdns.org I am hosting HA.
I have installed NIGINX SSL proxy to use https from external only.
For example, can I set https proxy in my browser to get access to duckdns.org from my company network?
I would believe the best option is to talk to them or not use it.
Going behind their back could be bad.
This is just about DNS. I am just trying to access my home HA.
Do they block tailscale?
My employer blocks dynamic DNS services and VPNs including Tailscale.
Nabu Casa works though.
Thanks, but I am looking for a free solution if possible.
Try Tailscale. It’s simple to set up. https://youtu.be/5rFWcukwCzU?si=aHB2Ba9nUmN622-N
Installed tailscale, very simple process.
My MacbookPro has tailgate VPN connected, but my Chrome browser still cannot access to .duckdns.org. but I am able to access the same host using the machine name of my HA host in tailscale dashboard. Working like a charm. Tailscale VPN can co-exists with my cooperate VPN.
Overlay network not VPN
Well well. I am not a network expert, but glad to see it works.
I do find an issue with tailscale today: If I turn on tailscale on my MacBookPro. I cannot click https links in apps and MacOS won’t open it in browser. It pops a dialog box with a message “You can’t open the applicaiton because it is not responding”. I guess tailscale DNS or something cannot distinguish VPN access (local) and Internet access. Copy&past https URL to browser works fine, but it hurt user experiences quite big.
I tried to change settings (DNS, VPN on demand, etc) in tailgate, doesn’t help.
