Hello,
Recently, I started helping a friend with automating her home. At the moment, there is a wild mix of many components from various brands, all with their own user apps, and not the slightest cooperation between them. (Hmmm… Sounds familiar?)
For example, she has a Foscam door bell, and a Signolux Twower receiver that can flash a bright light in the living room, to assist her impaired hearing. To connect the two, the friendly sales people have advised her to buy a Foscam VC1 Wireless Smart Chime that should be able to make a sound (if you are lucky, see the VC1 discussion elsewhere in this forum), plus a Signolux microphone unit. Needless to say, at the moment, it just doesn’t work at all.
So, I started thinking about alternative solutions, and while browsing the web to get some ideas for possible solutions, I came across HomeAssistant. And, after reading the documentation, my guess is that if we can integrate the Foscam VD1 doorbell (that module is indeed supported by HA) and the Signolux Tower receiver (afaik, that module and even the brand is unheard of here), then we would have a much better solution.
So, my question is if there is anyone that has successfully integrated a Signolux device? In the (likely) case that this is not done yet, how would one go about creatng an integration?
Myself, I am an electronics engineer, desgning circuits and PCBs for my projects with KiCad. I can program C++ on various platforms (PC, microcontrollers), and program FPGAs in Verilog. Unfortunately, my Python skills are next to zero. (But hey, this could be an excellent opportunity to learn! The part of Python that I am most uncomfortable with is that whitespace seems to have semantical meaning…)
Is creating an integration for the Signolux Tower a viable route to go? Or should I better try to get the chime-microphone chain working? (That would be a pity!)
Any and all advice and hints are welcome, and of course I am willing to put in some effort to pull this off! I just don’t know how deep the rabbit hole goes…
With many thanks in advance, Evert-Jan
