How to Interpret Zwave setting

So I have an energy reading outdoor plug and I get the following option for it

I have it report every 5 min if there is no change or normally once it passes a certain threshold… In this instance it is saying 1-10 or 1-100 is the value but the setting is 0.1A or 0.01kWh

What do the numbers entered 1-10 mean in this context? are they just multipliers? Like for the first instance take the value 0.1 and multiply it but whatever nubmer you enter? s0 1-10*0.1 so only possible values would be

0.1A, 0.2A, 0.3A, 0.4A…1.0A ?

Hi MrCaspan,
in my understanding you have to differentiate Power and Energy.
In your picture your outdoor plug gives you two choices to configure the threshold for Power and Energy reporting. Whereas Energy it the measured Power in time (like your gasoline in your tank - this is the Energy you can use to move your car, or kWh in batteries of an electric car).
So your plug will only start to measure your electrical Power if your plugin device uses more as 0.1 A current. And Energy is only reported when your plugin device uses more than 0.01 kWh (example in your picture).
If it is only the granularity of measurement you have to test it by yourself.
Example: only every 1.00 kWh is reported when you choose 100 in the Energy reporting threshold.
Hope you understand my German English.

yes thats exactly how it works

Make sure you set those to reasonably large values based on the load type. The #1 cause of zwave network problems is misconfigured power and energy reporting.

That’s a really great point. I did look at the debug log in JS UI to see this… Really go tip is to just watch that log for 5 minutes and figure out what devices are noisy and turn them down.

All of my Z-Wave stuff I set to 5% threshold or every 15 minutes. When it comes to calculating your total cost for the day the data will eventually get in there. People think they have to report every 5 seconds and really 15 minutes is fine. I love that most of the switches have a threshold and a timer… that way I get notified if a 5% change happens aka (it gets turned on or off) and it will also check in every 15 minutes. this is a great backup…

One thing that I don’t know and wanted to reach out to the manufacturers for my switch is… if there is a threshold met and a energy report is sent out does this also reset the 15 minute counter. or is the 15 minute counter independant of the threshold report and will just keep coming in on 15 min increments. Not that it matter but was just curious…

5% on a TV results in an almost continuous stream of data, as the power fluctuates based on how dark or bright the current scene is.

Yeah on a device like that for sure… Most of my energy monitoring is on devices that don’t change that often. Lights, freezer… it’s not too noisy for me so far based on the settings but each person will be different… It’s why I prefer Wifi based power monitors! I just got a couple of ESPHome plugs to test out!
