How to know what each item is?

When you are looking at elements that the Z-Wave device is reporting, how do you always know what they are? So for example I used to have a dryer previous reading which was known as sensor.dryer_previous_reading which I lost during the Z-Wave 1.4 to 1.6 update.

No clue if one of these is this but they come up as sensor.power_switch_electric_w_2 and sensor.power_switch_electric_w_3.

do you use zwavejs2mqtt?

if so then you might be able to look in that control panel and have a clue what they are.

otherwise I don’t know of an easy way.

What’s even more interesting and I am finding my HA becoming more flaky daily. Not sure if it’s HA or something else. So 15 minutes after a restart of HA I pulled the device back up so now those two values say unavailable.

But what’s even more interesting, the exact same ZooZ model but for the waashing machine vs the dryer doesn’t show those items

Phantom entities, it happens when there is RF issues during the interview process.

Just remove the invalid entities that are showing ‘unavailable’, they’re not real.

That’s the problem, if you look higher up in this thread, they were populated. Is it possible until the next time I turn on the dryer they won’t populate? Thinking not.

The only sensors you should ever see are:

anything else, remove.

Also, if you haven’t already, connect your zwave usb stick to a usb extension cable and move it away from the device it’s connecting to, this will reduce RF noise and give you a better time with zwave.

I got the impression the naming scheme was changed at some point. If the node is reinterviewed, the new ones are created and the old ones left obsolete.

No this “ghosting” issue usually arises when 1) S2 isn’t used/available to be used or 2) RF issues during interview.

Yep, my Z-Wave stick does have an extension and is away from the main unit or any other electronics. Basically sitting on a ledge at the top of my stairs going into the basement.

Just FYI, too long of a USB extension can be bad as well.
