My personal experience with these kinds of sensors is they are never accurate (for longer time). They need to be continously calibrated with an (expensive) Ph meter.
Hows your (longer period) experience?
So far, so good. For around two weeks no need of second calibration. But I never compared it to an expensive pH Meter
I did and it is way of a lot of times…
Hello, thank you @kpeyanski for your efforts with the tutorial. I patiently followed it but it seems I’m facing an issue I’m not being able to overcome, and I will be very thankful for the extra help I can get.
After wiring and installation, I’m currently getting the following logs:
So, I manage to have readings, which is good.
But:
My ESPHome code is just like yours. I tried using both addresses: 0x27 and 0x3F. I also tried removing the address line, the result is always the same “Communication with LCD Display failed!”.
What can I be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
I used to run a medical lab, and while the CLIAA standards do not apply to a home kit, such a sensor would need almost continuous calibration. Note that a pH sensor us consumed by the task and must be replaced regularly.
@kpeyanski what components would I have to add to make this wireless whether by way of WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-wave, etc.? I’m using Home Assistant and have all of the above mentioned ways to connect to it.
@sender do you feel it’s the probe or the sensor board that causes the reading to be off? I know with my Bluelab I get a notification maybe every two months to recalibrate it but it’s never off by much. But I have no idea if that would be a probe issue or an issue with the PH sensor board. I know probes definitely range in price so I assume with that they range in quality so would a better probe help or does the board also have a role in the accuracy of it?
Probe is off
do you use a bluelab with connect stick?
I apologize for the delayed reply. The BlueLab I have use the Connect Stick but I don’t have it. When I first purchased that model I thought it would just connect, then i realized it required the Connect Stick, Now I’m looking into making my own using Atlas Scientific hardware and a RPi. It seems like the better way to go with more options, same quality, and less expensive.
