How to make sidebars different on pc and mobile?

How to make sidebars different on pc and mobile without creating a separate users? Before last udpate sidebars was specific for that device, and it was very nice and proper way to use sidebars, on pc it populated with all stuff, logbooks, code editors, terminals, dashboards for tests and etc, on mobile its short and w/o no mobile stuff. Now its telling me that i need to create a new user for that. Why? This is very wrong and absolutle inconveniently. Is it a way to solve this problem?

No it wasn’t. It was terrible. It would reset constantly.

This new way is much better. But if you cant see that then:

Browser Mod. See: hass-browser_mod/documentation/configuration-panel.md at 9df2ec90eaba9b71a7a2f89ab64e655658989398 · thomasloven/hass-browser_mod · GitHub

A potential custom option

allows you to personalize the Home Assistant’s sidebar per user or device basis

How it better, its terrible. Its a phone, it has small screen, it need 3-4 items in sidebar max, and on a pc or tablet should be more and different items in sidebar. And now we need use mods to fix it to normal behavior, genius :man_facepalming: :man_facepalming: :man_facepalming:

Now your custom order is not lost every time you update the app or clear your web browser history. So yes, it is most excellent as this was incredibly annoying.

If you don’t want to create a user for each device layout (which IMO is incredibly simple and you rarely have to log in) then there are other options available. So I’m not at all sure what you are so upset about.

This is not how u solving small problem by creating a bigger problem. Just fix sorting issue after update (and btw never bother me at all), there is no need to make one sidebar for all devices to do that. There is no logic behind that.

P.S. Creating additional users for simple functionalities - really wrong logic. Using mods for simple functionalities - wrong.

this was never the case on Android, makes sense now why it was changed if thats how iOS behaved.

Yeah I use iOS. It was constantly forgetting the sidebar customizations. So this is an excellent improvement.

Likewise for people that have their browser history set to clear on close or have to clear it for some other reason.

I came here looking for the same thing.

Thank you @LiQuid_cOOled I will personally give this shot. Not ideal to use a mod to solve a problem but maybe the amazing devs can give us both options in a newer update.

@tom_l Your opinions on this matter are valid and mostly accurate, however there are use cases such as mine and @razor-4eg that this new update, creates a new problem, not solves one. I do not wish to create 5+ users for each wall mounted tablet, phone and smart screen to solve a problem that (to me) wasn’t an issue prior to the update. Not everyone will like every update. I applaud your fierce devotion to the updates but please do not assume one size fits all.

I’m sure the new sidebar features are amazing and useful to the major of HA users, but not always.

Peace.

Incorrect. It does solve the problem of the customisation resetting.

And you have options for solving your problems, so there is no problem.

You have taken my comments out of context here.

“…however there are use cases such as mine… that this new update, creates a new problem, not solves one…” is more accurate.

I was not stating it creates a new problem for everyone. I was stating it creates a problem for me and a small number of others. You cannot tell me that I’m incorrect on this. As it does create a new problem, but as you said, there are solutions.

Custom sidebar is one solution, a lovely mod that delivers alot of powerful features that unfortunately goes underutilised on my setup.

I won’t comment any further on the subject as I have what I came here for.

Peace.

You clearly said it did not solve a problem

Which is not true.

This is a really-really bad solution for small problem. This “solution” create a way bigger problem, so its true - its not solving it, it making it worse.

…in your opinion.

In my opinion it solves the problem perfectly.

You have been given other options so stop moaning and use them.

Suggest you to test alternative workarounds advised above. Meanwhile, you may create a Discussion in frontend repo with your proposals.
