How to nstall Home Assistant on my Synology DS213J but it doesn’t support Docker

Hi, I’d like to install Home Assistant on my Synology DS213J but it doesn’t support Docker.

Is there another way to install Home Assistant on the NAS.

HA needs more than 1GB ram to run.

True, DS213J has soldered RAM, so it’s not upgradeable, so your story ends here.

HA officially runs only as core only in Docker (although there are ways to install it with supervisor), so it’s more advisable to install HA in VM. Where we come to another problem: “J” model… officially it can’t run VM manager. I did read some articles about being able to install VM manager with some tricks, but not on 213 since is quite an old model…

(perhaps now it’s a great time to upgrade your old syno nas? Just don’t buy J model…)

Even worse, the J models do not use x86-based processors so they cannot run a VM.

Do not try and force Docker or VMM onto a J model Synology, unless you are 100% prepared to rebuild the NAS from scratch when it gets hosed. Ask me why my old DS213j turned into a DS918+ with extra RAM from trying to do exactly this?

Also worth noting is that the 213j is over 10 years old now. If it still has the original disk drives in it and runs 24/7, consider it living on borrowed time and in need of replacing…

On a second thought… i think that what i’ve read about non-official VM installation it was for standard (non plus) model, not for J. If i’m not mistaken VM manager is officially only possible on plus models…?
