How to restore snapshot to new HASSIO instance on new SD card?

I took a snapshot, saved it, set up and new SD card with HASSIO, installed SAMBA, copied the snapshot to the Backup folder and restored all items.

Home Assistant now refuses to connect.

What step did I miss?

Turns out I should have just waited longer!

All good.

Hi.
i also did it, but theres no backup folder in the mini sd card .
so i make new directory named backup, put the snapshot inside, but still, dont see it in the HA.

whats i’m doing wrong?

Thanks
Refael

Did you install HassIO or Home Assistant? If it’s HassIO there should be a backup folder…

I’m guessing you did since you are obviously looking in the Snapshot section of HassIO… Did you hit the refresh button in the top right of that page?

i think it’s hassio.
i going inside when writing “http://hassio.local:8123”
so it’s hassio but i dont see backup folder.
and yes i did refresh on the top right corner

When you say you are going into the card, are you connecting via SSH or Samba to view all the files? The backup folder is one level above \config from memory

and also in all off my old HA, when using samba to get in the sd card there is no backup folder, theres just
.cloud
.storage
deps
tts
folders

ok i need to go with SSH?

Or Samba, either works.

But why are you not seeing the config folder for example? Unfortunately I’m currently on my phone and not in a position to check my folder structure, but as far as I can remember, you need to go up one level from config to see the backup folder

I DO. NOW.
but only from the configurator addon.
i’l try to upload the snapshot from there
Refael

ok. now i did manage to go 1 level up from samba.
so… i’l copy my last snapshot to the backup folder. restart, and i should see it, right?

Refael

ok
it is working.

Thanks a lot
Refael

I copied my snapshot from the backup folder onto my computer. When I re-initialized hassio I connected back to the network and copied that snapshot from my computer into the backup directory but hassio says “you have no snapshots” when I try to restore. I even restarted twice after putting the file in there.

What I did:

  1. burn a new SDCard
  2. from old SDcard copy the backup folder to the new one
  3. boot from new SDCard, let it prepare his install
  4. create account
  5. goto the Hass.io screen then snapshot.
All my backup files where there again
  6. restored all files except the hass.io itself, because at point 3 it install latest version.
  7. reboot system
  8. login again at your portal

hello
I’ve try the same but when put a screen directly on the pi it seems to bo blocked and cycling on some errors

when I reboot backup is not restored.

my backup is a 92.1 version

Has there been any resolution on this? I have the same problem. When I could not install the latest update and I did not receive any response to my request for help I decided to reload expecting to be able to restore backup. Now that does not work. Please indicate how to get back up and running.

If you’re using Hass.IO, be certain to include the Configurator add-in. Then you can upload the backup from your laptop/desktop system to the backup folder on the new install. Refresh the view of backups and then restore the one you just uploaded.

My advice when restoring a snapshot - just be patient. No rebooting required. It will take time. Mine took around 10-15 minutes and then all came back online, sweet as a nut!

I know this is an old post, but may help people in the future. Once the snapshot has been placed in the backup directory, you have to click the refresh button in the top right of the Hassio screen (not the generic browser refresh button) to have the snapshot you have copied appear.
