How to send notification to MY mobile phone?

My wife and I have the exact same phone. I have HA app on both phones. That apparently caused both phones to show up under “Mobile App”. And they both show the same Model name “modelno”, for instance. I tried selecting one and was able to change the name to, for instance, “My Phone”. But I don’t see a place to change the model name.

So now when I try to create an automation that sends a notification to a phone, there is only one choice for Service to call. It is “Notifications: Send a notification via mobile_app_sm_modelno”.

How can I get these 2 phone entities separated and be able to send a message to one or the other?

Also, where is this model name information saved? Is it someplace I could edit?

And lastly, if HA had used the property of the phone that shows as “Model name” instead of the “Model number”, presumably there would not have been a problem.

You can name your phone in the settings on the companion app.

I’ve got the same situation but I configured the Device name within the mobile app (settings > companion app). That looks like this:

After that I just created the service and the name from the companion app shows up:

I’m guessing that is NOT a Samsung phone? What is “Companion app”?

I’ve already changed my “Phone name” and my “Model name” properties in the settings. Those apparently are not what HA is using.

It’s a Samsung phone for sure.
Open the Homeassistant app on your phone, go to settings and there you’ll find the companion app

I’ll go there again, but I already looked around in there. Hopefully, I’ll find it and HA will change the name for me. Wish me luck.

Great! Thanks UniPer. Somehow I missed the “Companion App” setting. I scrolled up and down that list several times before posting and didn’t recognize it’s significance.

… time passes …

And… It worked! Thanks again.

Glad you’ve got it fixed now!

I guess I still wish that HA had picked up the name and not the MODEL from the phone when I installed it. MODEL is not going to be unique and anyone with more than one phone of the same type is going to have to figure this out. Hopefully, they will find this thread.

You’re right about that, it’s far from ideal but…'hey…at least now we have a way to spend the weekend

I’ve been working on HA for a week or 2 now.

Well, the notification is able to distinguish the phones, but the Mobile App Integration card still shows the 2 of them with the same Model Name. Fwiw

What do you mean? Which card? Cause I see different identities for each phone when creating a card.

The integrations when you go to configuration (settings).

You can just look for the device within the configuration and rename there, it will also be renamed within the integration.

I was fooled by the Mobile App Integration didn’t have the “…”. Only when I went to one particular one. Which makes total sense, now that I know

Thanks again. I should have found that…

No worries  Enjoy your weekend!

I would, but I still have to figure out how to fix ONE device, 2477D, that doesn’t respond to HA. I have 2 switches in the same outlet box. One works, one doesn’t. And I’m pretty sure it used to. It operates manually, and I didn’t normally use it any other way. But when I was trying to identify which device was which after initial install, I would have thought I tried it then. But maybe not.

Now if I try to turn it on, it just turns itself off again. (as far as I know, the light never lights just the HA UI changes).

This isn’t critical to me, but I always like working out these problems because that is when you learn stuff.

And I want to try to get rid of the scenes in the Insteon hub and just use HA, but so far I’m not sure how to identify what is a scene and what is not in the Insteon Panel.

For that I would advise you to create a new topic. I’ve got no experience with switches and Insteon so, to be sure this question will be noticed, repost it in a new topic.

But I do understand the urge to make it all work
