How to setup a new Smartwings zigbee blinds with Home Assistant?

I’m completely lost here. Can someone provide step by step instructions on connecting a smartwings blind to Home Assistant? Please assume that I know very little about Home Assistant and getting this to work with blinds.

I have five of these and they are plug and play. Did you get the Z-Wave version?

I got the zigbee version.

I didn’t even realize they made Zigbee versions of this. I would assume it’s just like Z-Wave, a button on the motor pairs it to the dongle. I had to have mine VERY close to the dongle to pair them.

I have 5 Zigbee shades paired directly with ZHA.

The trick to pairing is getting them into pairing mode in the first place. The easiest way is to select the blind using the remote, then open the back of the remote, press the program button, wait, press up button, wait, press program button again and then in HA add new Zigbee device.

If you think the Zigbee signal is weak, you can access the antenna in the blind and point it into the room over the top of the blind.

Do these work correctly for you?
I’ve got several issues with them.

  • Status not show (0~100%). Seems they only update once the value? I created a small script that refresh the values several time oncer per hour, or with when a change is noticed;
  • A lot of time, the ‘blinds’ go offline, disconnect. When I control them by the remote, the are back online?

They do go offline for me from time to time but not excessively so - or at least not to the point of being unusable generally. I have really only one that loses connection, and generally a simple ping fixes it.

I’ve rarely had problems with it reporting the wrong opening, but it happens from time to time.

Did you get this working? We recently got 8 blinds, and can pair with all the remotes. but, Zigbee2MQTT doesn’t show them when permitting to join. Was there a trick to button pair seconds? I seemed always put it in a variety of modes (2secs, 4secs, 6secs, 14, etc.)

Using a RaPi5 with USB Dongle 3.0

@garycwallen Did you get these to bind and what did you do?

I’m getting ready to buy but picking a protocol is where I’m currently stuck. I’ve also not found any docs/notes on smartwings OTA updates - or if they even support that for any of the motors
