How to shut down hassio

Hi guys,
I want to shut down my hassio on raspberry pi so I can change the Wi-Fi settings to a different router. The last time I turned off the raspberry pi by pulling the plug it corrupted the SD card. I don’t want to do that again.

Is there a way to safely shut down the raspberry pi or a way to safely eject the SD card? Only option in hassio that I can see is the restart hassio.

Hope someone can help.

Yes, if you go to the HassIO tab, then click on the “system” tab at the top right, under “Host System” there’s a Shut Down option.

Or just take a look at this illustration.

I just installed Hassio on a mini itx system yesterday, @ Silicon_Avatar the shutdown button you show shuts down the whole system.

Go to Configuration->General->Server management to shut down Hassio only.

Thanks a lot, worked like a charm.

Is there a way in the system to change the ssid and password of a new router rather than unmounting SD card and editing the resin file on the PC? Just for future reference.

This is correct; however the OP was looking to shutdown the entire Pi & remove the SD card, so in that case the entire thing would have to be shut down to avoid corruption of the card.

I believe the docs mention that it can be done by rebooting it while a USB stick (with specific files in it) is inserted, but I’ve never tried it (I’m running hardwired ethernet only), so maybe someone else can chime in who’s more knowledgeable. It also seems possible to do over SSH.

Yes this is exactly what I was looking for. Already corrupted the memory card one time by unplugging it and it was a hassle to reformat the memory card for a fresh install. Format couldn’t be done via the PC as it would only see and format 32mb instead of 32gb. Tried everything to format it, in the end I stuck it in my phone and the phone formatted the whole 32 Gb. Don’t want to go through that process again so yes I wanted to do a full shut down.

Thanks for your help guys.

Hi,
If it ever happens again try this it worked for me.

This works. But the light still stays on my RPi 4. How do I tell it’s really all done shutting down?

Thanks,
Ambi

I don’t have a RasPi so I can’t say, but hopefully someone who does can chime in with an answer.

I need to shut down my RaspPie as well because i need to shut down the power in that area. If i shut it down trough the app how can i turn it on again? probably a really stupid question, but i’m worried that my sd card get’s corrupt like the last time…

The light stays on after a shutdown. To restart, you need to power cycle your RbPi.

So just put the power back on and it will restart?

Yes it will.

You are awesome.

What if the system doe into have the HassIO icon on the LHS ?
I have just started using the complete SD card image for the Raspberry Pi4 July 2021 and there is no HassIO item as mentioned in the first reply

have clicked all the options i can see it in the LH menu and cannot find this item to shut down .

Guess it has changed since 2018 ?

The hassio tab was renamed supervisor.
