How to update HACS when Update is "Unavailable"

ISSUE / PROBLEM: HACS stopped working today. Appears depreciated. Unable to update.

SETUP / SPECS:

  • Hardware: RPi4
  • Core: 2025.1.0
  • Supervisor: 2024.12.3
  • OS: 14.1
  • Frontend: 20250103.0
  • HACS version: 2.0.1

STEPS TAKEN:

  1. Checked the logs (see screenshot 1) and it appears my version was depreciated and needs updated.
  2. Attempted to update, but HACS update is “unavailable” (see screenshot 2)

QUESTION:
Before I uninstall and reinstall the newest HACS, is there anything less drastic I should do? I’m concerned about losing all my custom HACS configurations.

See After HA update to Version 2025.1.0 HACS is not starting: "custom integration 'hacs' sets option flow config_entry explicitly, which is deprecated at custom_components/hacs/config_flow.py" · Issue #4314 · hacs/integration · GitHub for the source of the issue and a solution that will allow you to load HACS prior to the update.

That is NOT the solution. It is a high risk workaround.
The solution is at the end of that page.

So, I already applied the workaround, but did save a backup of the hacs.repositories file, so can put it back. FWIW, it did appear to work without problems and I was able to update to 2.0.2. Here is my followup question:

Now that I’ve updated to HACS 2.0.2, should I revert to the old hacs.repositories file with the music assistant lines in it?

No need.
But generally it is not advised to go changing files in that directory.

@fweghorst. Thank you for your help. Your solution did work, but I marked @ludeeus comment as the solution since it’s considered the preferred safest option.
