Hey!
New version out … and the GUI doesn‘t give me any option. No supervisor (so confusing!). All tutorials say „go to supervisor“ or app-store! There is none! This is probably the 1000th thread like this. Because this is super confusing! Why did you choose this design? I even can‘t remember how my HA is called …is it core? Too many options / naming conventions.
Could somebody maybe help me find the right guide to have a supervisor? I‘m running a RPi with HA running not in docker and not as OS from you (because I want my own OS). Is it still not possible to use supervisor // have the full HA experience?

you can still have the “full HA experience”. But you just don’t have the supervisor.
It sounds like you have installed the HA Core installation in a python virtual environment?
if so then you need to update your HA via the command line in the venv you created when you installed HA.

Here are the steps to update HA in a venv (old but I think they are still valid):
$ sudo systemctl stop [email protected]
$ sudo su -s /bin/bash homeassistant
$ source /srv/homeassistant/bin/activate
$ pip3 install --upgrade homeassistant
$ exit
$ sudo systemctl start [email protected]
If necessary change the user “homeassistant” in the second line to whatever user you used to install HA.

And why do you want your own OS and make it yourself so difficult with such a critical system that manages your home?
Your distro’s python version may fall behind the minimum supported for Home Assistant Core

Hmm, I dislike the trend for every project to have its own OS. If you want to run more than one project with its own OS you have to decide … right? So I decided to ditch that and rather run them on my own… makes life easier in most cases — just not in this.

You can run HA Supervised on your own OS but it’s usually not recommended because there are potential pitfalls (unsupported or unhealthy system that prevents you from ever updating).
if you want to run your own OS then the only real viable option (aside from what you already have) is to run HA Container. But again you won’t have the Supervisor.
I run HA Container (with no Supervisor) and I don’t feel I’m missing anything at all. I still have my own OS and I just handle all of the HA stuff myself. And updates in Docker are a breeze.

well, yes it does. So you already have my recommended way of running HA.

I also recommend you run an app (in Docker) called Portainer.
it simplifies a lot of the maintenance you need to do.
But Docker by itself is sufficient.

haha… yeah… I thought venv were quite complicated (to remember how to get in there)… since I‘m running HA in docker I guess I only need to find / remember the correct folder hidden somewhere
I have to say… I want to switch back to venv - way easier!

Slow down. In the space of 2 hours you have changed install methods, updated versions, set up docker-compose. Slow down.
The docker commands to setup and update ha via docker are here
Now that is a raspberry pi page, and we don’t know your setup, but the commands are the same on any platform running Docker and using the container installation method.
Slow down, and if a problem arises, ask. Don’t go further down a rabbit hole with commands you don’t understand.

Settings are so empty - and kinda useless imho - I hope in 2022 version this is better
