I have two ways to use devices, one is via the unifi integration (home network based) and the other is via the mobile app.
This works fine for a phone but for the Apple Watch Ultra, even though the app is installed on it, I do not see it as a device tracker via the app. Any ideas what settings to choose to enable that?
I can tell you from experience to forget the Unifi integration now, since Apple Watches shut down their wifi to save battery and switch to Bluetooth when in range of their paired iPhone.
My attempts to use Apple’s location services on my cellular Apple Watch sucked the battery dry in under three hours. If the people who made the thing can’t figure out how to save GPS and radio power to adequately do location services on the Watch…
Ah I see, that makes sense.
So basically, best to only rely on the iphone for home/away detection?
Hi @ncd
Have a look at our Theengs Gateway Add-on local Bluetooth solution, working great with any Apple Watch model, with an additional unlocked security property.
Do you know how to configure it to use the Bluetooth proxies?
Not yet, it’s on my TODO since for now a combo of unifi + GPS works well (on phones, not the watch) but it’s better to move to BT.
I just ordered a BT proxy (m5stack atom something) since I need to improve coverage for part of the apt and I’ll see how those work for at-home detection as well but it’s still an open project for me. Not high priority
